This tip may seem a little obvious, but when your are not at home turn off the lights, the computer, the TV, etc.. Not only that, but adjust the AC or Heater to use less energy while you are not there. What’s the point of having the AC cooling your home to 72°F when your not even there to enjoy it? Better yet, install a programmable thermostat so you don’t have to remember to adjust your AC/Heater when you leave for work or go to sleep at night, just set it and forget it. For equipment such as computers, TVs and DVDs, you can plug them all into multi-plug electrical surge protectors and simply switch off the surge protector while you are gone and eliminate those pesky phantom loads which eat up over 11% of your energy consumption.
