Plant some shade

Summer is right around the corner and it will probably be another hot one, at least for me, here in the south. One thing you can do this summer to cut down on needless heat gain is to plant a tree or tall bush to serve as a shading element. The west side of a structure gets the most intense heat during the day, so by planting a deciduous tree on the west side of your building or home, you will be providing shade in the summer, but still letting in heat and light in the winter when the tree looses its leaves. Also consider shading any exterior concrete as it will help to reduce the local urban heat island effect in your city or town.
