Whether you are living in a hot or cold climate, adding insulation can be a tremendous energy saver. Many builder houses are inadequately insulated because of value engineering (cutting cost) to get the homes built under budget. Unfortunately this cost is passed to the home owner in increased energy bills. By simply adding R-19 insulation to an existing R-11 insulation condition in your attic, you can see savings of over $1.35 per square foot. To see the recommended insulation level in your area, use this insulation estimator at the Department of Energy website.
