Has anyone else heard of Woodstock, NY, USA’s plan to reduce their net carbon dioxide emissions to zero by 2017?  I found it on CNN:
http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/science/04/09/zero.carbon.woodstock.ap/index.html

Sounds like a promising plan, but is it really feasible?  I have special interest in this, since I live about an hour away from there.

No I hadn’t read that before but it does look very interesting.  The good thing is as said in the article that it is more of a rural community and not very industrialized which will be a help to getting this off the ground.

It also states that the residents are all for what is being said because they are very into the ecology balance of the planet.

It is a grand endeavor and would be terrific if they could accomplish it because then they would have the map to help other small rural communities to accomplish the same thing.

If you see anything more about it then by all means let us have a look at it.

A worthwhile target and a realistic timeframe in my opinion. Ten years might sound a long way off, but with more plans like this in action, we would very quickly see an improvement in both the environment and the atmosphere.

It wouldn’t make up for decades of neglect, but it would go some way to preserving the future.

I’ll let you know if I hear any more news about it.

It makes sense that Woodstock would be the town to try this out…it did give its name to the Woodstock Festival of the 60s, after all.

That is a very cool endeavor to make, and it’s already almost 2008.  The time will go by fast, and it might just help the environment like it’s meant to.  Go Woodstock people!  :D

The goal might sound as unlikely as stuffing smoke back into a smokestack. Even sympathetic experts call it challenging. It likely would require many of the town’s roughly 6,200 people to install solar panels and geothermal hookups. But it’s tough to find a resident who doesn’t support the project.
