I don’t get why men in business suits and women by themselves drive around in huge SUVs. Can’t they drive an economy car?

It’s a sign of status and nothing much more I’m afraid. The vast majority of these people do not require the space or off-road capabilities of some of these vehicles so are in essence polluting for the sake of it.

Over here we joke about parents running 4x4’s purely for the school run, though unfortunately it isn’t an uncommon sight. Even the huge road tax rises haven’t been enough to put many people off.

It’s kind of sad when you think about it. We need to change how people view status, don’t we?

It is really sad that these people need an automobile as a status symbol.

Personally, I think these people get these SUVs purely for power.  Any drivers that I have seen in these things feel they can do anything in any kind of weather and they are usually the first vehicle in an accident, especially in the winter.

They seem to feel that snow doesn’t affect such a “BIG” vehicle.  Maybe they should be watching the statistics more to find out that more SUVs and vans are in more accidents than any other type of vehicle.  Maybe then they will realize that power isn’t everything.

I drive one big SUV because I need a big vehicle. I don’t have any other car so I always use it. I don’t have any other choice. But it’s a Hybrid SUV so maybe it’s okay.

My mother drives an SUV too. Is this so bad?

While we talk about how bag SUVs are no one hardly mentions the diesel burning trucks that transfers goods back and forth across the country. A soccer mom in a SUV can’t produce nearly as much fumes as an 18 wheeler, can she?

I do feel for some of them when it comes to paying at the pump but that is the price you have to pay to drive that kind of thing. I couldn’t imagine paying $50+ to fill up my vehicle.

Are they supposed to drive something else after dropping the kids off at school just to please you?  Why do you care anyway?

Actually no vehicle on the road is doing the amount of damage some would have us believe.  And hybrids aren’t the salvation either.  And like I asked the original poster, why do you care so much what other people drive? Jealous?

I drive a pickup truck.  It’s the same thing!

Who cares about the amount of gas they are using to drive those big vehicles. If you are a single person maybe you should drive a moped if you think they should drive economy cars.

I have no problem with SUVs and trucks. I think that everybody has the right to drive whichever car they choose. I drive a small sedan, however, I don’t think that others should have to drive one just because they are a single person. Sometimes it is necessary for people to drive bigger vehicles, and it’s their choice. If they end up spending more on gas than others, so be it.

I have an SUV, because economy cars are too small. I carry a lot of tools and people around with me when I go places. I would rather have 5 people in my SUV than 5 individuals on the highway in 5 different economy cars. It is all about perspective.

I drive a truck because I like it. It’d be cheaper for me to drive a car, but I don’t like cars. I don’t have four wheel drive, not that it really makes a difference in this argument or anything.

When the 4WD vehicle first came on the market I think saw them for the safety idea in bad weather now its the car to have.  I drove a Jeep for a while, which I got to have reliable transportation during the snow.  It was the worst snow we had and I was moving while others sat on the curb.
