How long before you think these things will become more widespread and readily available? I’m looking forward to their introduction on a much larger scale given that they have very little effect on the environment, though would like to see more being doing, particularly by governments, to promote them.
I’ve seen one or two very exciting concepts from the Japanese and, with any luck, will be able to look at investing in one. Unfortunately there isn’t as much supply of alternative fuels in petrol stations, though I’m sure that will change over the next few years as gas and hydrogen powered cars become more popular.
i don’t know. maybe 10 years or something. and i think they will be expensive. what is the price now? how many prototypes are there worldwide? have the great companies developped prottypes? if someone coudl answer these questions? :?:
More like 1 to 2 years. The skatebord (By GM I believe) is already ready to go. Basically in California they have made a “hydrogen highway” where APD (Air Products) has built multiple hydrogen filling stations which allows Californians to travel the length of the state totally on Hydrogen.
Hydrogen is most definently the solution for automobiles… Weather its used in a combustion engine or weather its converted to electricity, either way both are fantastic alternatives to fosil fuels and have little negatives.
Here is the skateboard:
(converts hydrogen to electricity and uses that for energy)
Here is the latest Hydrogen BMW:
(this one is an internal combustion engine which uses hydrogen for fuel)
thank you very much! I will look over the links!
i didnt know we were that close. but those are prototypes they won’t take the old cars out of use worldwide just to save environment and if 200 people will get hydrogen cars in 1-2 years ... that won;t recover for the other millions using classic cars.
So i guess i estimated well. 50 years to really see the difference!

hei don’t be such a pessimist. who knows? maybe in 5 year we will be driving hidrogen cars. you never know what may happen
maybe the hydrogen cars will be cheaper and people will prefer them to normal cars.
I really hope that people will become more responsible and buy hydrogen cars but I don’t know. Car companies have to be encouraged to make better offers for these cars and maybe then more people will buy them.
The only way to truly make a difference with cars is by not only buying Hydrogen cars, but producing the Hydrogn yourself.
I dont know about the UK, but here in the US we(meaning the president and congress) are basically controlled by the big oil companies. So 90% of the Hydrogen that will be produced for these cars will end up being made from burning fosil fuels.
In a nutshell he spent our tax dollars to fund a huge Hydrogen project which will actually cause more pollution and co2 and use more energy than just burning gasoline.
Im not trying to be a pesimist, Im only stating that we the people must be the catalyst and we must make the changes with our buying power. We live in capitalist coutries (most of us) so the big business will follow the money, that you can be sure of.
yes i understand that all people must act because we get no help from the government but a lot of people don’t know what to do and ,at least here in my country, saving the planet and reducing emissions gets very little attention. i can tell my family and friends but only that so i don’t know what single person can do about it

If you think like that you won’t get anywhere. Your family and friends will teach other people about saving the environment and so on. Soon a lot of people will be involved in this and then things will start to move a little.
I don’t want to look stupid but how do we produce the hydrogen ourselves?
Well Im not saying that you need to build a hydrogen generator by yourself, but theyere are solar powered hydrogen generators out there that you can buy.
In a nutshell, you can generate hydrogen by hunning an electrical charge in water which will separate the oxygen and hydrogen in water. It then comes to the surface and can be stored for later use, by either burning or to generate electricity.

Here is a Complete Turnkey Hydrogen System for your Home!
Is very nice of you to explain this to me Adam. I am happy i don’t have to build one myself
What i wanted to say was that i saw no commercials about the hydrogen BMW. We can buy it right? I really find it very unpleasant that i see no commercials. When the x5 appeared there were ads everywhere but i don’t see any with the hydrogen BMW. A friend of mine wants to buy a car and i went today with her to look at the price offers for different models. We also went to a BMW store and they had pictures with their latest models and everything but no hydrogen BMW. Is it for sale or not?
later edit: “Instead of moving forward with our research, 100% of our time and money is now being spent on fighting a legal battle with the U.S. Government.” -this is terrible, the government is so irresponsible and the bad thing is that it will affect all of us. :(
I would be interested to see how the hydrogen cars do once they are mass produced. It is a great idea and I am sure that California might be able to set a decent example on how well they work.
I figured that the money would end up somewhere other than what it was intended for. That is what usually happens. If hydrogen cars do well oil companies will lose money. I doubt if our govenment will be too keen on that.
If hydrogen cars produce water as a waste product, what’s going to happen to that waste water? You can’t have 200,000 cars on the road dribbling water out their tailpipes or the roads will erode away in next to no time, and never mind the flooding.
I just want to know how we’re going to handle that issue. Do we bring it home and dump it in a tank to use for household use, like toilets and such, or what?
I honestly dont see “driping” water as being any issue at all. The amount of water produced it not much and would not be any more than the condensation that drips from your AC compressor on a hot day.
