I read that car emissions are toxins that are partly responsible for causing 1500 cancer deaths in America. Does that mean that your chances of getting cancer are higher in a busy city than they would be in the country? Maybe this is an issue that environmentalists should tie in to what they are saying about emissions.

It would definently make sence as you can actually see the pollution in the air in big cities.

I notice this every time I go to Houston, Texas the smog there is terrible, so I can only imagine that breathing that stuff in is not healthy.

terrible ...

i think mankind will reach the life time of our ancestors: the cavemen…
I think that these emissions are killing us. it is so hard to breathe in a big city! and all the cars and the traffic, it is awfull!
Mankind is trying to do something now, but it is not worldwide applied, the thing with environmental protection. No one is interested very much in the matter.  :?

I read somewhere that a person who lives in a big city has more chances to develop cancer than a person who lives in a little city with almost no cars or factories.
I think is very true, we only need oxygen and breathing that unhealthy thing is not very good for our brain or lungs. Sometimes in the morning when I open the window and I want some fresh air all I can breathe is gas from the cars. This is terrible especially in the summer.

Certainly - there are many carcinogenic substances in exhaust fumes both from cars and factories amongst other things. Living in a city will exposure you to a much higher proportion of these substances on a daily basis, so you are inevitebly more likely to develop diseases and illnesses related to these chemicals.

The country isn’t necessarily the perfect getaway as pollution is generally increasing everywhere, though invariably the air is of much better quality.

Many people who life in a city with a nearby factory and a high car traffic complain of different health problems.I truly think that if you live away from the city or somewhere in the mountains you have a better health than someone who lives in the big city.

Too bad that the mountain regions are becoming more and more polluted. In a few years we will have to climb to the top of the mountain to feel some good fresh air.

I just saw a terrible statistic about the people who have a driver license and people who don’t…
The ones who have a driver license have a greater risk of having lung cancer but it’s not a minimal risk it’s double or triple. OMG

have you noticed the difference between mountain air and the city air? when i went last summer in Sinaia(a region here in Romania with mountains) i felt my lungs filling up with good air and then i returned home and I really felt the difference.
i started breathing more often because i felt that my lungs were not receiving enough air. i am not joking but the first day was terrible.

i won’t even start talking about the government here; the environment is their last problem.

Yep, definitely cities are filled with more cars and the so the risk of getting cancer for those who live in cities is really high. Especially childhood cancers today have been linked to levels of pollution from car exhausts and the highest risk of cancer for children is for those who live in cities.

I do believe that it is possibly. I hated it when I lived in a city. The smog was the worst. There were mornings you could barely see what was in front of you. I can tell the difference in the air once I moved to the more rural areas.

are you talking about people who have them and drive vs. people who do not have them and drive. That does not make sense to me, unless of course you mean people who do not drive and do not care to drive.

There are a lot of people out there that drive without a license.

Re: Car Emissions and Cancer

I have always wondered if pollution of some kind, be it electrical or chemical, or otherwise was the cause or any factor in these health issues. I wonder if anyone has mapped out a chart comparing pollution levels with cancer rates of an area.

The polluation from the buses, cars and trucks can cause some unpleasant conditions for people that have upper respiraitory conditions like COPD

When the quality of air is poor for people that have breathing problems the local government suggest we leave the cars at home so that these people will not suffer to much when they are out doors.

Misuse of cars of defective cars can cause too harm to your health as well as other people’s health. You should not use hydraulic horn, you should use good lubricant and check the engine everyday. Save yourself and others.
