“LEWISBURG, Pa.—Scientists investigating a mysterious ailment that killed many of the nation’s honeybees are concentrating on pesticides and a new pathogen as possible culprits, and some beekeepers are already trying to keep their colonies away from pesticide-exposed fields.”

I’m glad that something is being done to try and protect the honeybees. It’s sad that so many of a species is being killed off. I had heard from somebody that it was caused by the use of cell phones confusing them and allowing them to get lost, but I guess they threw out that theory?

At first they tried to blame this on people but in the end they have recently found that apparently it is some type of virus that spread throughout the hives and caused a lot to die.

I heard about this and nothing disappoints me more.  I remember first hearing about the bees dying off when I was in middle school.  Since then, it’s only gotten worse.  Honeybees used to be everywhere when I was younger.  Now I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen one.

I don’t think scientists know just what is causing it yet, they just have a name:  Colony Collapse Disorder.

You can read all the different theories they have here:

I just wonder how we can get the bee population back.
