I live in southern California, and there are special carpool lanes on some of our freeways for those with more than 1 person in their vehicle and for those with energy efficient cars. Are there carpool lanes in other parts of the country, and what do you think about these special lanes?

I live around that area as well, and I really like the carpool lanes. I don’t know how well the laws surrounding it are enforced, but I think that generally, carpool lanes are a good idea. They help ease the flow of traffic, and they’re a nice little perk.

We do not have these lanes. My state isn’t the best when it comes to traffic…. Nothing but traffic. I have to elave an extra hour earlier than I should because of traffic.

I’m not sure if they are everywhere, but when I started studying to get my driving permit I read something about them so I’m sure we have them in Florida.

They should make it more than 3+ people. That way it really will be a carpool, and not just 2 people going somewhere.

Why is there a separate lane for car poolers? Why don’t they just get the same lanes as everybody else? Is there any reasons for this?

Its to encourage carpooling. The carpool lane is always going to be less used and therefor much quicker.

So people who carpool will get to work quicker and keep the pollution down.

We don’t have those over here in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. In fact, this is the first time I’ve ever heard of this. It sounds like a great idea though.

We have them in Maryland and Virginia they are called HOV lanes High Occupancy Lanes of travel to use the lane the vehicle must have 2 or more people in the vehicle.

I think there should be more than 2 people in the vehicle and they should be enforced better.  I have seen vehicles with just one person in the lanes speeding.

The carpool lanes do move thru traffic faster, I wish I could get a carpool in my area to reduce the cost of commuting to work.

They have those where I live and I think it’s awesome.  But the lanes are REALLY short here, so they’re almost a waste…sometimes.  But for the most part, it’s pretty helpful, especially in rush hour.

I totally agree,  especially in rush hour, sometimes I preferred to walk back home
