Why is it that the American government isn’t taking global warming and sustainable energy more seriously? I do not understand how they can be so dismissive, stating simply that to do anything would be too bad for the economny. The economy won’t matter if we run out of oil!

Beyond that, it seems that as much money could be made investing in and researching sustainable energy. So why are people not doing it?

Well they are right to some degree. Our current system that is in place is an oil based economy, so any drastic changes would affect the economy as a whole.

However, I am a believer that because of our capitalistic cosumerism economy, we “the customer” can use our buying power to change the direction of the economy.

From what I can see, it looks like this is currently happening. So, all I can say is we need to all make the right buying desicions if we really want to see change. The market will follow the money, and if we are spending more money on oil based products then it will keep on trucking the way it is.

Yes, I can see that the economy is oil driven. However the view is incredibly near sighted if they think that it will always be and that we can go on ignoring the problem for ever. It’s time that the people making policy woke up to reality.

I have to admit that I do not understand the American economy well at all. But it would seem that the people who are currently using oil products (ie car companies and so on) are the ones who SHOULD be leading the ‘revolution’. The industries that will be screwed when oil runs out are the ones who should be so desperately looking for new ways to keep their business going.

In that way it would seem that the transition could be made without anyone losing out and without the economy hurting. But no one is interested in that, and to me that is where the politics comes in.

While the government is at least acknowledging it now, there is definitely not enough being done about global warming. It’s disappointing, but I guess there are some more important issues we need to resolve first.  :?

I disagree that they are acknowledging it at all. The government still pays way too many scientists to say that global warming isn’t happening, and find theories and evidence to support that. Till they stop doing that and accept it, nothing will change.

I agree that they aren’t acknowledging the situation at all. I wish that there was a way to make global warming more evident to the government. What must we do to make them realize that something needs to be done?

They actually dont care about nothing if you ask me. They use all of these special programs to make more money. They get money off of these little conservation programs.

The government is a business just like everything else in America. Where there is money to be made, they are going to put efforts towards those areas.
