Last sumemr I saw program on PBS that showcased energy efficient home designs. Since we are looking into buying a home, I found this really interesting and decided to do a little reasearch.

What I found is that there are many people putting together designs for solar homes! There are even govt. grants in the US to homeowners to install solar panels on their roofs! Has anyone heard of this?

Here is a link for more information.

I think that the grants are closed now for putting solar panels on your home. I could be wrong, but I read that it was started to create a good market for solar panels.  :? This may have been the federal grants and not each individual state. It’s worth looking into.

It is not fair! They should grant the use if there is the technology ! but the electric energy providers will go down with the ship ! that is man’s problem!!! He is interested in making money other than protecting himself! Think of every big company in the world that produces sources of energy: it would be the a disaster for them to be overtaken by alternative energy!

Maybe, I mean if your a big company and your producing energy, then it would make good business sence to gradually move towards cleaner energy as this is what the market is crying out for.
As we the consumer change the market, big business will follow simply becuase they will go where the money is, its the nature of the beast.

Thats why it is so important that we as consumers start making better buying decisions, which will affect the direction of the marketplace.

Just my opinion,

Adam

Well at first these alternative sources of energy were not so well known to man and developing of engines, electricity providers and other forms of energy found other ways to produce that energy because it was easier that way(i dont know if i make myself clear). Now think at what would mean to change all the cars in the world or all the electric network in a city like New york for example ... or in a smaller city it doesn;t matter! It would be a very big problem and not everyone can afford devices like that. maybe in about 50 years or more ... if we get to live LOL

Yes, but think about this: all the new products are expensive but after a while they become more accessible and this is what will happen to these too. Some people will buy them at first and then the price will be lowered as new technologies will appear and I think that anyone will be able to buy them in the following years. Is not like we are changing everything in one day. In a few years the gas will become more expensive (because the petroleum resources will be limited ) and more people will want to buy hydrogen cars or invest in a solar home.

Generally when new technology has been introduced there has been some type of plug in or adapter made available to the consumers that do not want to purchase the new product to give them the opportunity to use their existing product with the adapter for example the HDTV.  The signal for all TV’s will be HD by 2009, not everyone is going to rush out and purchase a HDTV an adapter is available to allow people to continue to use their old TV’s.

I just ordered his ebook this morning. Got it but only had a chance to skim it. Very “doable” from a building perspective. SG would know infinitely more about the solar aspect. He’s got a bunch of other “stuff” in the book as well. Well worth $5.00 IMO.
