I don’t think that public schools are doing enough to teach children about the environment. I understand that we can’t fully rely on schools to teach our children, but do you think that they are doing a good enough job?

I don’t think that schools are doing enough either. Helping to save the environment does not seem to be the top priority in any school system that I’ve seen.

In general, they aren’t. Fortunately, my daughter has had the opportunity to have a teacher that had a genuine interest in teaching about how to be environmentally-friendly. Unfortunately, my daughter won’t be in her class next year, but I give a lot of credit to her. It’s the teachers like her that do make a difference.

Re: Are schools doing enough?

While I do appreciate Teachers and their role in our kids’ lives, I do beleive that schools do not teach the necessities of life. I think the real education begins when the kid is able to ask why their parents do what they do, and then they can think about it and make their own choice about these issues. I would love to see more of this covered in schools, but I don’t see it happening anytime soon, unless Teachers take the action…. and hopefully they wouldn’t get into too much trouble from it!

Schools are for learning what you need to learn to be able to get a job.

The home is for learning “necessities of life”.

School does way to much about the environment. Ever since I was in the first grade that is all I ever heard about. I got so tired of learning the same thing every single year.

I think the schools can do a much better job at informing people about the environment, but at the same time, teachers are assigned to do certain subjects and finish certain criteria which doesn’t include teaching them about nature.  I think the best that they can do currently is to bring people in to teach them for a day or two about energy conservation and the environment, which is usually what my teachers did.

I also don’t think public schools are doing enough to teach children. As somewhere we should teach them all basic things at this age only. If this is not taught at this time then in future it will create lots of problems. We can’t do anything that time. So its duty of students school & schools teacher to see all such things.

i remember a time when everything we know we learned from school. i remember being tasked to plant and garden and cook as well as clean. while some of these things can be learned at home it was made more serious because it was an activity in school. you learn the value of your task as not just an ordinary chore but something you do to help your community and train you how to survive. recently, i noticed that the schools are doing less for the children and their extra curricular activity revolves mostly in arts and music. while this is also helpful, i think children still needs to be taught how to do those basic things in order for them to learn the value of nature and what it has to offer.

Schools should teach environment lessons so that students will
be taught on how to preserve the earth.  Disasters cause poverty,
which leads to more disasters.

I agree! schools should start making their campaigns in saving our planet more stronger. I think including this in the curriculum could help save our planet. We need to educate our young students even college students on how to properly care for our planet.

In my country schools are interested in teaching children only theory.Nothing about real life or how to apply their knowledge. Is a bad educational system.

Schools nowadays only teach how to get high grades and recognition. It seems to be the most important aspect of being in school right now. Students do a lot of memorizing and other passive activities. I hope there would changes in the educational system, molding students into good citizens not only good career man and woman.

For me, teachers cannot really teach the children to nurture the environment..
Sometimes, children should learn it by their selves with the help of the family and friends.
