[quote author=“adambeazley”]Ive actually done alot of research on this subject so Ill go ahead an pitch in my 2 cents:
First of all bottled water is not nessesarily cleaner than tap water. the fact is (Im talking about the United States) in the US bottled water is regulated by the FDA who do not “test” anything. They simply rely on the word of the manufacturer, they also regulate dietary suppliments, etc.. (none are tested by the FDA).
Tap water is a municipality and is heavily regulated by the government to meet very strict quality standards. In fact most bottled water companies get their water from municipalities, so you are essentially drinking repackaged tap water.
Many people say “it taste better” this is due to the fact that tap water travels through pipes to get to you home. The good thing about this is tap water will pick up needed minerals on the way to your faucet. It is not true that tap water has more chlorine and/or more bacteria in it. the fact is after quite a bit of testing, bottled water (of all different brands) showed more bacteria, chlorine and other chemicals when compaired to tap water.
Now about the environment: Bottled water is terrible for the environment.
Why? because they are in bottles made from plastic (which is made from oil) and these bottles generally do not get recycled, so they sit in landfills creating methane and other poisonous gases as they break down.
So, if you do not like the taste of tap water and dont want those good minerals then my reccomendation is to invest in a Good Water Filter . The cost may seem expensive at first, but just think about how much bottled water you drink in a year, hell it cost more than gasoline per gallon. A good water filter will save you alot of money over time and will keep out any other strange particles that could contaminate your water.
Very informative information on water! I always figured that tap water was the healthier option, since it does gain more minerals in it’s travels through the pipes. I never understood why people would spend money on water as well. Spring water, mountain water, tap water, it’s all the same to me.
