In your opinion, is auto racing bad for the environment? It uses many resources, such as rubber and fuel. Do you think that something should be done about it?

That’s a very good question. I’m not a racing fan and haven’t thought much about it, but there would be a great opportunity for car manufacturers to come up with more environmentally friendly fuels, engines, materials and so on.

I can see the environmental movement and racing really clashing. The two just are not compatible, as bad as that sounds. I do not see a way to keep the ‘thrill’ that people want, and still do it gently on the environment.

In time I think that auto technology will catch up to the point that racing no longer hurts-but it won’t be for a long time.

I think that eventually, the situation will improve, but in the meantime, I guess we just have to deal with it. It’s all up to the car manufacturers, I think.

Yeah, and I don’t think that the manufacturers want to move forward environmentally, all that matters to them is speed. Maybe there will be a new racing league started or something that focuses on only having ‘new’ or environmentally friendly cars in it.

SingleAgain, that’s a good concept. A league that relies on environmentally friendly cars would definitely draw attention, and I think that some people would like it just because they’re doing something to help the environment.

Some would for sure. But until such a time as environmentally sound cars can reach the speeds that current cars can reach, I don’t think it will take off. There wouldn’t be enough of a thrill for most viewers.

I agree. I don’t think that environmentally friendly auto racing will blow up to be as big, just because it won’t be as thrilling as say, Nascar.

This is something that I’ve never really thought about. I don’t think that many people have thought about it, because I’ve never heard any type of protest against racing (in regards to the environment at least). I think it’s a neat concept though.
