For anyone who likes to garden and likes to get plants started early for transplanting into ground or big flower pots or whatever, cardboard egg cartons are fantastic. You put your soil into the cups, pop in your seeds and set the cardboard on plastic or an old cookie sheet and water. When the seeds sprout and it’s time to plant them, just cut the cups apart and plant the whole thing in the ground. The soft cardboard of egg cartons is very biodegradable and makes it easy to plant your flowers or veggies.

I remember my mother doing this when I was younger. I think it’s a great idea, because it makes transplanting so much easier.

Never actually heard of this, but I may definitely give it a try when the spring season comes around.

Starting any plant in the egg carton is a great idea.  One small hint, if a storm is coming move the carton inside.  I started my beans in an egg carton, along came a storm and washed all of the soil out of the carton.  I had planned on planting the carton that weekend.

Another idea try making fire starters - fill the paper egg cartons with dryer lint, then pore melted wax over the lint. You can tear apart the sections and use for fire starters when you are camping, or in your fire place. I use left over candle pieces for the melted wax.

Another use would be to store lose change or small items on a counter top in the cartons.
