I’ve read articles on this and I’ve seen cats on TV and so on who were toilet trained, but I’ve never tried training mine. It’s a great idea and would so cut down on litter and all the mess that goes with that. Has anyone tried it? Does anyone know how to go about it, and would it work with adult cats who have the litter box mindset?

That’s an interesting concept. I’ve never considered toilet training my cat, but I have seen the videos online. I think it would be a good idea to cut down on the kitty litter. Plus, it would probably make your house smell a lot fresher.

We had a cat who went in the loo. We did not train it to do that-it just thought that it was human and should do what we taller humans did. The cat had serious attitude.

Anyway, this posed a small problem. My mother was watching a film late one night, and the ad break came on. Not wanting to miss the film, she ran to the loo, not even turning the lights on.

First we knew we heard this blood curdling SCREAM as she ran down the hallway, knickers around her ankles almost tripping her.

Cat got to the loo before she did…...tail shot up between her legs…...

It’s a good thing I wasn’t drinking my coffee when I read that or I would have snorted it out my nose and hurt myself! Oh my goodness! Your poor mum! The poor cat!  LOL  LOL

Britjojo, that is quite a funny story. I can’t even imagine how terrified I would be if that ever happened to me!

That is truly a funny story.  I know I would have hurt myself trying to get out of the way.

Actually I read some instructions on how to do it, but I haven’t got around to it yet. Since I can’t find the link I’ll type them out as I remember them.

First of all you start moving the litter box over to the toilet from wherever in the house it is (hopefully its already in the bathroom). You move it just a little bit every day.

Then when you get to the toilet you start stacking up phone books or something day by day until the box is on the toilet.

When you get it up there, you cut a hole in the bottom of the box. Then I think you take out the litter.

After a while (maybe a few days until the cats used to it), you get rid of the box completely.

I am getting a 2 yr. old cat soon and stumbled across the citykitty website. I think it would be totally awesome to have a toilet trained cat because I HATE the smell of a litter box and it would be nice to not have to spend the money on litter too. Has anybody tried toilet training their cat successfully??? Tell me your story! REAL stories only please, no advertising! Thanks!
