I have read a little about this and have come away very confused in truth. I believe that grey water is the none toilet water that is already used in the home and the aim is in reusing it for things like garden irrigation.

In that case-must it be treated? Why are people using so much energy to treat it-isn’t it counter productive to use huge amounts of energy to save a little water?

And what is brown water-is that from the loo? Adam, do you try and reuse water yourself?

When I was a child we where still using the old wringer washer and you could save your wash water and use it again.  It would help save some water now if we had that feature in our current wash machines.

Brown water is a term that is often confused with grey water, so they are one in the same.

Black water is the water that is comming from the toilets, showers and kitchen sink. Black water is waste water and shouldnt be re-used.

Typically grey water is not treated because in most cases its just used to either flush toilets or for irrigation. Some places may try to reuse grey water to drink, but this would be a very expensive alternative and I have not personally seen anythig like that in any buildings or homes that we have designed.

I currently do not have anything that helps me to reuse water. I have been researching a system that you can install under a sink that will catch that water and use it to flush the toilet right next to it. Might consider getting one of those at some point, although my main goal right now is to get my electricity as green as possible.
