I realise that using a dam for the water for hydro electric power is the most convenient way to harness this type of power, but why are other sources not used more frequently? Someone posted in the other thread that water covers the majority of the planet, and where there is a large body of water, there is a tide.

No, that couldn’t drive a typical turbine. But it could drive some kind of kinetic device, because they are in operation. So what is it that is holding back the use of none dam water sources?

Do not get me wrong, I am all for protecting the environment, but you must look at the bigger picture. The damage done by fossil fuels greatly outweighs the damage done by hydroelectric energy.
