What are the alternative travel methods when you are traveling a long distance. Does travel by boat actually pollute less than travel by air or train? I would really like to know if anyone has any statistics on this. Give me your views.

I don’t know any statistics but I’m led to believe boats are a viable option provided they operate at close to full capacity - naturally, a half-empty cruise liner isn’t the most environmentally form of transport.

Having said that, I do believe they emit far less pollution albeit over a longer period given their much, much slower relative speed than aircraft, for instance. The main problems with ships is the potential for fuel and oil to leak into the sea and damage sealife and coastal areas.

A row boat, probably wouldn’t pollute too much
LOL
This is a good question, I would be interested in seeing what other options we have

I do not really know of any tips for reducing emissions on trips. You could fly but that pollutes a lot…and so does driving the whole way. Maybe find a tour bus or something and go on it with several other people?

If you take something like a boat instead of a plane your not really doing anything because the plane is still going, and then there is a boat.

Just take a plane, unless its going just for you.

My family tries not to fly if we can help it during our vacations.  We watched a documentary last year that said that flying was one of the worst things you can do to the air quality.  Sometimes we don’t have any choice when it comes to traveling, but we feel that we are attempting to find alternative travel methods.

Travel by boat is less likely to cause infection than rancid travel by other means. It can take advantage of natural energy. And gives us interesting feeling when floating on the water.

I am not much aware of the statistics of emissions caused by traveling by ship. However in comparison with aircraft or roadways traveling by ship is surely environmentally good as it causes much less emissions that the former. But then again very few people prefer traveling by ship in comparison to air or road. Thus it is difficult to reach to a conclusion.

Alternative travel is extremely underrated these days. The majority of people travelling from one major city to another or one country to another would choose to fly rather than use any other method of transport. It is very rare that these individuals actually look into alternative travel methods before booking, and as a result they are missing out on the whole travel experience.

i agree. i think the only people who make use of other means of travel such as ship or train are those who are traveling for pleasure and not business. business trips are always conducted in a fast manner and the fastest way to reach your destination would be by airplane or high speed trains. not environmentally friendly, yes but that is how it is nowadays. if people are taught to slow down then maybe, just maybe they will appreciate thing at a slower pace.

I don’t think that boats makes more pollution than compared to other two except few.

Both modes of transport pollute the air. I would consider fixing my own vehicles if I want to save the environment and also raise awareness among people so that big transport vehicles get checked regularly on fuel emissions.
