I about fell out of my chair laughing when I read about these self righteous idiots who preach to the masses about how foolish we all are.  About how we’re destroying the planet (as if we’re big enough and significant enough in the life of the planet that we could).  They’re like the hunger strike organizers who stuff their faces when they think the cameras aren’t watching.  Do as I say not as I do!

John Travolta spoke about the threat of global warming and urged all humans to do their part to help the environment

Truth or Fiction: Gore’s energy-hog mansion

And just in case you think Gore should be able to be the biggest hypocrite he wants to be because he buys credits, or whatever, this one’s for you.

I guess we shouldn’t bother with saving the environment since even those who speak out for it isn’t doing their part. :? I haven’t purchased a hybrid and I often forget to recycle. I have yet to see where “everyday” people are actually doing their part to save the environment. No one should look up to a celebrity to make a difference in this world. I do think it is a good thing to expose them and maybe they will make an extra effort to lead by example.

Yea its pretty ironic that Al Gore is the “face” of this environmental movement yet he has a huge house that wastes sooo much energy.

Then you have Bush, who makes the worst environmental descisions, yet he had an architect design and build his texas ranch which is very very “Green” and self sustainable.

What Irony….

Again, the point is, our politicians are full of crap, so it is up to us to really make a difference. Just do what you can, you dont have to be totally carbon neutral to spread the word, but do try to do something… anything…

I don’t think that it’s necessarily up to celebrities and politicians to make the difference. While it would be nice to have a role model, the common man must be the one to make a difference. Why must we look up to others to do something for ourselves?

No matter what the celebrity or politician preahes, and what their hidden agenda is, the most important thing is that we do the thing that will be most beneficial.

You shouldn’t look up to people in the spotlight to be your environmental role model. People are hypocrites, and like Kiwi said, you should disregard their hidden agendas, because that’s not important. The important thing is that you do what you feel is right to help out.

Re: Do as I say, not as I do

I think it’s still important for us to do our part… even when others are busy talking a good game. The problem doesn’t change unless we take action on it, so if we truly beleive this is an issue, we have to take action, to do anything else is to invite more pollution, more landfills, and more suffering.

Celebrities don’t tend to understand that if they want to speak out for the environment, that means sacrificing the fancy, energy-using items for something much less.  I can’t believe Travolta has, what, 5 jets, and he speaks out against global warming?  Seriously, what hypocrites!
