So I have read in a few places that the raising of cattle has a significant effect on greenhouse gasses in out atmousphere. The question is, woud you be willing to give up meat in order to help stop the release of methane?
Personally, I will not! I just love to eat meat and I believe it is nessesary to have a balanced diet.
Difficult question! On the other hand, how much pollution would be created as a result of having to grow and process more crops and vegetables to cater for all the vegetarians out there? I don’t think there will be a great deal of difference in the grand scheme of things, and since I enjoy a good steak of beef burger as much as the next guy, sorry, meat is strictly on the menu here
We rarely eat any meat. Beef is eaten maybe once every 2-3 months in our home. And it is only organic at that.
It takes some extra creativity and work to lessen meat consumption, but it can be done.
I also think that growing veggies/crops may take space, but it is not being eaten by animals. You also don’t have all the animal waste to contend with. Especially if crops are grown organically, they will only benefit the environment.
I’m sorry, I really can’t give up meat. I just love it! :D Anyway, I don’t eat A LOT of meat - I think I eat pork or beef only once a week. I mostly eat seafood because I’m always watching my weight.
Yeh, we’re closet carnivores here, too. Human beings are omnivorous, so removing meat is not necessarily the best choice, although I respect those who choose vegetarianism. That’s not for me, though. I have no idea what the solution is.
I am not sure with this. I was vegan for about 7 years, and at that time I coped ok with it. But in the end I reached a point where I was virtually drooling every time I saw an ad on TV for the golden arches! I just couldn’t do it any longer.
If I saw the benefits were that huge I might consider it again.
I could never give up meat, even if it did help control greenhouse gases. I just love it way too much. I know it may be considered selfish, but it’s one of the few things that I’m not willing to give up.
I’m a vegetarian, so obviously I did give up meat, but this was for health reasons. I don’t think that everybody should give up meat for any purpose, because it is important to eat a well-balanced diet.
I just think that there are other solutions to the problem, and one person becoming a vegetarian will not change the situation.
As much as I’d like to say that I would do anything for the earth, I can’t. I don’t think that I could give up meat. I’m just not a salad type of girl.
I think whoever came up with the whole theory of global warming being caused by that is crazy. And to answer your question no I would not ever give up meat for any reason.
I can’t give up meat, I have tried. In 7th grade (I think it was) I was a vegetarian for about a week, then they had one of my favorite lunches at school and it had meat.
And if we just let all the cattle go wouldn’t they still produce gas? We would just have less food.
Meat is part of a healthy diet so I would not be willing to give it up. I would much rather be healthy which is also why vegetarians make no sense in their logic of trying to eat better.
I’m vegetarian, so this is great to hear! Just another reason to embrace veggies and tofu crumbles I’ve been eating the breakfast burritos of BOCA, they have tofu crumbles, eggs and cheese. There are so many options for meat substitutes, but I can’t emphatically ask you to try them, because some are downright awful. But BOCA and GardenBurger have treated me pretty well for my money. Save the cows and eat a veggie
