When you talk about polluting your homes you have to think of the things you use that pollute.  Things like Endust for dusting or furniture polish for polishing or cigarettes that you smoke.

One of the ways to compensate for this is with plants that absorb these toxins and release oxygen into the air. 

One of the best plants you can get is the Spider Plant.  It transforms toxins into oxygen.  It will absorb the most toxic chemicals in your home and release purified air into the atmosphere.

I have had many spider plants in my home in various places for years and one thing that always is said by people visiting my home is “I thought you were a smoker?”.  I am a smoker but the spider plant maintains clean air and people don’t smell the smoke in my home.

I’m sure there are other plants of this nature and I would be interested in hearing stories of other plants.

It seems you really do learn something new every day! I knew that plants absorbed carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and produced oxygen (at least by day anyway), though I wasn’t aware that they absorbed any other harmful gases in the atmosphere.

As far as I am aware it is the only plant that does take other chemicals and emissions out of the air. 

I could be wrong there could be others but I have never heard of them.  I always give a gift of a spider plant to friends when they move into a new place if they don’t already have one from me.  They have all thanked me later because even household cleaner fumes seem to get cleaned out of the air as well.

I guess I am a little ahead, I only use water and a dusting clothe to dust and clean in the living room. I use natural cleaners in other parts of the house and make sure that I read labels before I buy products. I am glad to know that I am doing the right things without even really knowing I am.

I would love to have more plants in my home, instead of one pathetic cactus, but there is something about potted plants that makes my cats believe they’re herbivores and they eat everything in sight. Crazy buggers.

I agree I would love to have more plants, but I would probably forget to water them and kill them anyway. My mother always had a living room full of plants and plants hanging everywhere else. I wish I could have gotten her green thumb. She was so good at it.

I love plants and have always had them around.  I think the rubber tree plant maybe an air purifier also. One of my favorites is the golden phytos, it is very hardy, does not require alot of attention if anyone is looking for an easy plant to grow.  Also try a plant in a bottle no care at all.

Plants help to clean the air out doors but we cutting too many down.  Out cities would not have the pollution problems we have if more trees had been left standing.  We should try harder to replace the plants we destroy when new construction is going into an area.

Plants should be taken care of because they are giving us the things that are best for us
