The goal of this website is to help the environment by teaching people how to reduce their contribution to global warming. After careful observation and market study, we noticed that although most people do care about the environment enough to make some changes, unfortunately, the average person is not well educated on the proper environmental changes to make. Our approach to this problem is a three pronged approach which we hope will create a helpful, flourishing website.
-Education & News
The first prong in our three pronged approach is to simply to educate the end user about the realities of environmentalism and to dispel some of the negative myths about green living. Through the main site and the blog, we cover a variety of topics, from political news, new and innovative product reviews as well as tutorial type writings and how-to articles to help individuals do their part to stop global warming. In particular, the “Be Green” section of the website contains detailed information about specific areas of an individual’s life in which changes can be made to reduce co2 emissions and save money.
-Tracking & Ranking
The second prong in our three pronged approach is to give individuals a results based tracking system for their emissions. We accomplished this feat, by custom coding a co2 calculator, paired with a database storage system to allow our members to not only calculate their co2 emissions, but to store them and change them as well.
Unlike other CO2 calculators out there, our free member based system stores your emission information in our databases and allows you to take specific actions to reduce those emissions. Whats unique about this system is that we start by calculating your average environmental impact by asking a few questions abut you and your energy use, then we allow you to view our “Take Action” page where you can gradually dwindle down your CO2 emissions by selecting and pledging to do specific CO2 reduction action items. As you pledge to reduce your CO2 emission, you will be ranked according to the action items you choose to do. These rankings come in the form of graphic icons which are displayed on your personal profile, allowing you to proudly display your accomplishments.
-Social Connections
The third prong in our three pronged approach is to give like minded individuals a place to make social connections, advertise themselves and their businesses, and to express themselves. Our Web 2.0 site allows individuals to create blogs, upload videos, keep a journal, send and receive emails and instant message other Neutral Existence members. We believe that this social aspect of our website will help to get more people involved and focused on our main goal of reducing CO2 emissions.
